HAWAII RUSH SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED 080911
CONGRATULATIONS CHRISTINA ARMSTRONG!
Submitted by Robin Kakugawa
Each year, Hawaii Rush awards one or two outstanding high school seniors with scholarship money to apply toward their continued education.
This year’s recipient is Christina Armstrong, a 2011 graduate from Hanalani School. Coach Sean Richardson, along with Coach Arian, presented Christina with a $750 check in front of about 50 Rush players practicing at Waipio.
Christina has been with Rush since its inception in 2005, playing on our 92G and Women’s teams. She will be attending California Baptist University in Riverside, California. Christina will be part of the Lancers Women’s Soccer team while working towards a degree in Intercultural Studies.
October 2011 will bring Christina back to Hawaii along with her Cal Baptist team to play against Chaminade (October 15), Hawaii Pacific (October 17), BYU-Hawaii (October 19), and UH-Hilo (October 22).
When asked for some words of advice to our younger players, Christina shared, “Work hard and do your best with anything you’re given whether at sports, school, or home.”
Hawaii Rush is proud of Christina and we look forward to hearing about her success in her future endeavors!

IT’S A MOM’S RUSH… TEAM 072411
Let’s get together… And play soccer!
Soccer is such a fun way to be healthy and to get to know other moms in our club! Rush moms have expressed an interest in forming an over 40 team. This team is open to all that are interested regardless of experience. If you’ve never played soccer (or any sport) before, then this is an amazing opportunity to be part of a team that will learn and develop together. We’re hoping for a good mix from all levels of experience. We’ll have real games and a coach too! Our team will participate in the WISA League, O-40 division, with 90-minute games on Sundays, starting between 9:00am and 3:00pm in the Fall and Spring. All games are played at Waipio Soccer Complex. We know everyone is busy and won’t be able to make every game, so a full roster is desired. Encourage your fellow moms to join with you… It’ll be fun!
We plan on starting up with the Spring season which runs from March through June. Please sign up as soon as possible so that we can get a count of interested players, register, order uniforms, and get some training before the season begins. Incentive to sign up early: You can reserve your favorite jersey number when you sign up!
Jersey Numbers Reserved: 7, 8, 10, 12, 13, 15, 16, 19, 21, 22, 23, 24, 26
Estimated costs
WISA Player Registration - $25/player
Team Entry Fees - $750/team ($35-$50/player per season/tournament depending on roster size)
New Team Fee - $100/team (divided by # of players on roster, team credited the next year)
Uniform Costs - TBD
Coaching Fees - TBD
Please send an email to
for more information and to sign up. Please provide all of the following information: Full name, birthdate, mailing address, contact number, experience, jersey number request, and the teams that your child(ren) plays on. Please indicate if you want to be added to the roster or if you are just inquiring.
Let's do this!
and be part of the biggest club in the world!
Official Rush tryouts begin June 1st, at which time we invite anyone interested in joining the Rush to contact one of our age group directors for a tryout. Our coaches will appropriately place players on U5 to U19 boys and girls teams based on current ability, and desired level of play.
All Rush players will always have a place within our club. Coaches and staff continue to evaluate players throughout the year for placement, consideration for NIKE teams, and options to double roster, to play up or play down. Let your coaches or DOC know what your goals are and what options you're interested in.
New families, please contact one of the Directors of Coaching (DOC) listed below to arrange for your tryout.

Thank you to all that participated at the Juggle-a-Thon event that raised funds for a great cause...Rush For Smiles/Operation Smile.

2011 State Cup Tournament
As always, a great weekend of youth soccer, full of excitement, high emotions, old and new rivalries, spectacular goals, missed opportunities, exhaustion, celebrations and of course some desperation and disappointment.
The highs and lows within the games themselves and throughout the tournament, the warm weather, and why not...some inconsistent refereeing took a toll on almost everyone. Overall, Hawaii Rush had a great showing. Some seasoned teams were able to add to their already great resume while other teams established themselves further as contenders worthy of the title.
The 93 Nike boys showed again their resiliency when it comes to winning the event even though the team suffered significant losses to personnel two weeks prior to the tournament due to injuries. They won their sixth successive title against their archrivals, Bulls.
The 94 Nike boys also had an outstanding tournament. They were able to overcome some unfortunate setbacks due to some abrupt referee decisions and pulled out a 2-1 win against a well coached and skillful Maui team, playing for close to 70 minutes with ten players and for 40 minutes with 9 players. There was just as much excitement on the game against the Bulls as they were playing to earn the age group "wild card" spot. The boys were able to control the game well and won deservedly 3-2.
Both teams will represent the club and Hawaii at the Regional Tournament in Boise.
The 98 Nike boys and girls had a very good tournament and earned second places respectively.
The 98 boys came second to Maui who they actually beat 1-0. Unfortunately the boys suffered a loss earlier to Abunai, and that gave the edge to Maui for the title.
The 98 girls came up short as well, giving up 3 unaswered goals after getting up early on their rivals, Blitz.
The 97 Nike boys lost in a double overtime final game. An unexpected floating ball, managed to deceive even an experienced goalkeeper such as Johny Finucane, dropping behind him for the deciding goal. The boys showed a lot of growth and maturity that they have gained and worked hard for within the last year.
Congratulations to all the teams that were able to represent the club, especially the 93 and 94 boys for their Championships. Good Luck at Regionals!

It was another grueling three days of hard played games, up and down emotions, excitement, disappointment, tears of joy and sadness. In the end, we all are very proud of our young athletes that competed hard and represented themselves, their teams, and the club, exhibiting quality, commitment, and fair play.
